A Season of Thanks

As we approach the holiday season, Mary Lynne and I are reminded of the abundance of blessings we have to be thankful for in our lives at the University of Kentucky. Over the last year, we have made progress on our shared journey. We have continued in our multi-faceted mission to change the lives of people in every corner of our state and throughout our world.

The progress we have made requires a great deal of time and energy from our UK family:

  • Our alumni who help recruit our students, support them during their time on campus, and welcome them with open arms at graduation into our extended alumni family.
  • Our faculty who inspire us with their brilliance and challenge us to elevate the way we approach questions of our day and expand conventional thought through innovative research and creative scholarship.

  • Our staff that remains steadfast in their devotion to our institution, to our mission and to our students.

  • And our students – tomorrow’s leaders who are finding new ways to lead today. They attack, with infectious vigor, new discoveries in intellectual and social development.

Our students, faculty, staff and alumni are the soul of our institution, and I am deeply blessed for the opportunity to build upon our great success of decades past and honor the promise of tomorrow.

Thank you for your commitment to the University, our community and the Commonwealth. Your time and talent is the foundation of our success.

As Mark Twain said, “to get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” Mary Lynne and I are proud to divide that joy with the entire UK Family.

Please take time this season to appreciate the full measure of the blessings in your own life and share your joy with those who have helped make your success possible.

Best wishes for a happy season of Thanksgiving.
