Digital Accessibility Initiative: What you need to know about new regulations
LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 30, 2025) — The University of Kentucky is undergoing a comprehensive transformation of campus assets to ensure digital content is accessible and complies with new federal regulations.
Digital content or materials available to students, patients and the public — including, but not limited to, websites, apps, academic course content and digital documents — must be accessible by April 24, 2026, according to the Department of Justice’s final rule updating its regulations for Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Led by a work group that includes the UK Office of Campus Accessibility and ADA, UK Web Communications and subject matter experts across the university, guidelines have been developed for creating accessible and compliant digital content. For example, the group has worked with the Office of the Provost and the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching to provide guidance and individual support for faculty members regarding future academic course content.
Digital accessibility is essential for people with disabilities and makes it easier for all people to navigate digital content. It helps ensure everyone can access information and services equally in the digital world. And ensuring digital accessibility across the university is a shared responsibility.
Any member of the UK community who produces or disseminates digital content for students, patients or the public is responsible for ensuring that content is compliant and meets accessibility standards by utilizing resources and guidelines available online at https://ada.uky.edu/digital-accessibility. This page will be continually updated with guidelines for additional types of digital content.
The Office of Campus Accessibility and ADA is here to support members of the UK community as they work to create compliant and accessible materials. For questions about content that is not currently reflected online, submit the General Inquiry Form, available on the webpage.
