Nominations Sought for Provost’s Teaching Awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 30, 2009) – Each year, the University of Kentucky recognizes faculty and graduate students for outstanding teaching.

The Office of the Provost strongly encourages interested faculty, staff and students to nominate deserving faculty members and graduate teaching assistants for outstanding teaching awards. The award is intended to identify and recognize faculty and graduate teaching assistants who demonstrate special dedication to and meritorious success in their teaching; and to encourage awareness of the importance of excellence in teaching.

A selection committee will review the nominees, collect additional information and recommend approximately nine winners to the Office of the Provost. This year, the committee will recommend recipients for each of four types of awards:

·         Tenured faculty ($5,000)

·         Non-tenured faculty ($3,500)

·         Lecturers ($2,000)

·         Graduate teaching assistants ($1,000)

Details about the nominating and selection process are available online at: http://www.uky.edu/Provost/APFA/Awards_Honors/nominations.php .

On April 23, 2010, the recipients will be honored at a formal ceremony and receive their awards.

The deadline for faculty, staff and students to submit one-page initial nominations to the nominated faculty member's department chair is 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2010. All submissions are to be made electronically.
