Honor a Teacher Who Made a Difference

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 20, 2010) − Last year more than 100 teachers were recognized by the University of Kentucky College of Education Teachers Who Made a Difference program. Now, the UK College of Education and UK men's basketball coach John Calipari are teaming up to offer the program again in 2011 and are currently accepting submissions.

"At some point in our lives when we were young, someone stoked that fire," said Calipari, the 2011 Teachers Who Made a Difference spokesperson. "There was that someone who made us feel good about learning, not just getting A's on tests. That's why it's important."

The Teachers Who Made a Difference program, now in its 13th year, gives individuals an opportunity to thank the teachers, principals, college professors or other educators who have inspired and motivated them to succeed.

The program does not select winners from a pool of nominees. Rather, the UK College of Education created the program to provide individuals a means to express thanks to educators who have impacted their lives. Honorees can be from anywhere and do not have to be affiliated with UK; however, the number of honorees to be recognized is limited. Organizers ask that nominators limit recognitions to one teacher per year.

To honor a teacher, visit the UK College of Education's Web site at education.uky.edu/Community/TWMAD and complete the online form. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28, 2011.

More than 1,200 teachers have been honored since the program’s inception. The Teachers Who Made a Difference program includes a special recognition event and reception attended by both the teachers and their nominators.
