ITS Cloud Community of Practice — Second Meeting on July 20
LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 13, 2017) — University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (ITS) formed the Cloud Community of Practice (CCoP) to provide guidance, experiences, updates on UK's cloud strategy, education, presentations and opportunities to share information with the campus community.
During the inaugural CCoP meeting on June 7, UK faculty and staff discussed the ITS mission around "IT Abundance," cloud services available to UK and whether there should be a policy statement regarding services. The attendees also discussed what sets Amazon Web Services (AWS) apart and how other universities are utilizing AWS as a secure cloud services platform for networking, computing, storage and database services.
“The College of Design relies on dozens of pieces of software to equip and train designers of the future," said Joe Brewer, special assistant to the dean. "The demands of deploying that software provide significant challenges every semester. Thanks to the CCoP, our college is trading best practices with our peers on how to leverage the ample resources that the University of Kentucky offers in order to better serve our students, faculty and staff. Further, ITS has equipped our college with custom solutions to the computing hurdles we face while rendering in our 3D software. ITS and the CCoP have saved us time and money, and have empowered us to better serve the College of Design.”
The next CCoP meeting will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, in the James F. Hardymon Building. Microsoft representatives will be joining the group to discuss its Azure Cloud Platform and services available to the university.
