UK Employees Can Convert Temporary Disability Leave to Additional Vacation Leave

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 1, 2022) — The annual period for University of Kentucky employees to convert their temporary disability leave (TDL) to additional vacation leave (VL) will be available April 1-30. Employees may request conversion of TDL hours to additional vacation leave through Employee Self Service in myUK. Employees should log into myUK, access Employee Self Service and select Working Time and Leave Requests.

Select the TDL to Vacation Leave Conversion link to download the conversion form, which will have instructions on how to submit it to the Enterprise Applications Group, which administers Employee Self Service for campus employees, or UK HealthCare payroll for healthcare employees, depending on where the employee works.

Each April, employees who have more than 66 days of TDL may convert those hours to additional vacation leave. The conversion rate is three days of TDL for one day of VL. Employees can receive up to four additional days of VL, as long as they have at least 66 days of TDL remaining after the conversion. Employees who did not take any TDL in the past calendar year can also receive a bonus vacation day.

Days acquired through conversion shall be counted as vacation days earned in the current fiscal year, meaning that VL days accrued in this fiscal year will expire Sept. 30, 2023, for campus employees and Dec. 31, 2023, for UK HealthCare employees.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
