UK Offers Performance Evaluation Training

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 13, 2012) — In an email sent to all faculty and staff, University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto said:

Dear Colleague,

Since arriving at UK, I have been actively seeking opportunities to broaden our success as an institution and to fulfill our promise to the Commonwealth. A key to achieving that success is making the best use of the talents and skills of our greatest asset — you, our UK workforce. To that end, Performance Evaluations provide a prime opportunity for supervisors and employees to engage in an important conversation, one that provides honest and constructive feedback.

Based on your feedback about the PE process, I tasked UK Human Resources with developing training to support supervisors and employees in getting the most out of the PE process. I strongly encourage you to participate in this new training.

Participating in Your PE - for Employees

This web-based course offers tips for employees on their role in the performance evaluation process, including how to prepare for the PE discussion, and how to discuss your career development and goals. The course takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Leading the PE Conversation – for Supervisors

This web-based course is aimed at supervisors and provides tips on preparing the Performance Evaluation, and leading a discussion on the employee’s performance, development and goals. The course takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, and is also offered as an in-person class. Additionally, a classroom session is available which focuses on clarifying standards for unit leaders and managers.

Due to the difference in the timing of campus and UK HealthCare PE cycles, it is recommended that campus employees and supervisors complete the training this fall. UK HealthCare employees and supervisors will be prompted to complete the training after March 1.
