"see success." UK Set to Honor Graduates at 146th Commencement Ceremonies on May 5

LEXINGTON, KY. (April 22, 2013) The University of Kentucky will honor the 2013 graduating class on Sunday, May 5, 2013 in the institution's 146th May Commencement Ceremonies.

Ceremonies will be held in Rupp Arena. The Graduate and Professional Commencement Ceremony will take place at 9 a.m., followed by the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

1 p.m. — Undergraduate Ceremony for the colleges of: Agriculture; Business and  

Economics; Education; Engineering; and Nursing.

6 p.m. — Undergraduate Ceremony for the colleges of: Arts and Sciences; Communication and Information; Design; Fine Arts; Health Sciences; and Social Work.

Keeping with UK tradition, a student speaker will speak at both of the undergraduate ceremonies.  Mercedes Rosado, a kinesiology major in the College of Education and a pilot candidate in the Air Force ROTC, will speak at the 1 p.m. ceremony. Luke Glaser, an English and Hispanic studies major in the College of Arts and Sciences, will speak at the 6 p.m. ceremony.

Family members and friends unable to attend the Commencement Ceremonies can watch the events live online on UKNow, UK’s news website, at www.uky.edu/uknow. Live-streaming will be available for all three ceremonies. Prior to each ceremony, UK students will host “Live from the Big Blue Carpet,” a special pre-show that will feature a behind the scenes look at graduation and interviews with faculty, administrators and excited graduates. “Live from the Big Blue Carpet” begins approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of each ceremony.

Twitter.com will also be used during the ceremonies (and before) through the use of the hash tag #UKGrad to celebrate our graduates and all of the events surrounding Commencement. UK’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/universityofky will also be a hub for Commencement information.

For those attending Commencement, a family room will available to accommodate guests who may have difficulty navigating the stairs at Rupp Arena or for children who become restless during the day’s events. Located in Thoroughbred Room 3, the family room will include a television monitor for viewing the day’s events live.
