Stand Out With Badge Blue

Students can earn up to four digital badges through the Civic Engagement Digital Badge program.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 27, 2020) — The application window is currently open for the Civic Engagement Digital Badge program that recognizes University of Kentucky students who are engaged in experiences beyond the university campus. Students can earn up to four digital badges for their involvement, service and leadership in their communities.

Badge Blue is offered through UK’s Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement, a center that promotes service-learning and supports sustainable and meaningful civic engagement in teaching, learning and scholarship.

UK’s Civic Engagement Badges document competencies students achieve through a combination of civic engagement, community service, internships, co-curricular and curricular learning opportunities and leadership activities. These badges allow students to highlight the skills they have developed that may not be readily transparent to potential employers on their resume or transcripts. Badges can be added to a LinkedIn account as certifications or to other social media accounts.

Students can earn the first badge by completing 20 hours of community service or nonprofit internship experience and submitting a report generated by GivePulse, VolunteerMatch or APO documenting service hours (or other comparable documentation provided by a community/nonprofit partner).

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
