Commencement Preparing for Inclement Weather

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 15, 2010) – As the Bluegrass Region and the Lexington metro region prepare for a possible winter storm, the University of Kentucky is preparing for any alternations that may need to be made to the university’s first December Commencement, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. (graduate and professional students) and 6 p.m. (undergraduates).

University officials are working closely with the National Weather Service and local meteorologists to monitor the weather as it approaches Lexington. University administrators will assess the situation and make any cancelation, postponement or other decisions with the safety of students, faculty, staff and guests in mind.

In general, it is UK’s policy to keep all offices open and classes meeting as scheduled except under extraordinary weather conditions. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to alter the university schedule. All faculty, staff and students should note that announcements regarding cancellation of classes and closure of offices, or a delayed opening will normally be made by 6 a.m.

Any official decisions will be announced here on UKNow, the university’s news site, as well on UK's official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/universityofky, on the university’s homepage at www.uky.edu, on the UK Infoline at (859) 257-5684, UK TV cable channel 16, Digital Cable channel 219, student channel 49 and through the local news media. UK Alert will be activated and provide limited information referring people to the website for more information.
