Fourth Annual Cowboy Up for a Cure Rodeo Offers New Opportunity for Campus Involvement

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 8, 2017) — The Cowboy Up for a Cure Rodeo rides again at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena beginning 7 p.m. Saturday, April 8. Cowboy Up for a Cure is hosted by the University of Kentucky’s FarmHouse Fraternity, Alpha Gamma Delta and the UK Rodeo Team.

Gates open at 6 p.m. with a variety of activities planned for the whole family. Nash FM 92.9 will be providing live entertainment while families can visit the inflatable village, a face painting station, roping and riding demonstrations and sponsor booths.

Professional rodeo entertainment by 3 Bar J Rodeo of Union City, Indiana, will begin at 7 p.m.

Prior to the rodeo, student organizations at UK can help support fundraising efforts by participating in Barnyard Olympics. Barnyard Olympics will be held 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at E.S. Goodbarn. Each student organization may enter up to three teams to compete in events that offer lots of farm-style fun.

Barnyard Olympics is sponsored by the UK Federal Credit Union. Nash FM 92.9 will be on-site providing music and entertainment. 

The top four teams in each category of the Barnyard Olympics will have a chance to compete in the greased pig contest at the Cowboy Up for a Cure Rodeo on April 8.

“We want to provide student organizations an opportunity to help us increase our fundraising efforts and show the Central Kentucky community that UK students are not only #FTK, they also #CowboyUp,” stated Jimmy Salmon, 2017 rodeo chair.

Tickets for the rodeo may be purchased online. Cost is $17 per person with children five years of age and younger admitted free of charge. Student organizations interested in purchasing group tickets for 10 or more can take advantage of the discounted rate of $12 per member by purchasing group tickets online. Group orders require entering the organization name at checkout.

Proceeds raised at the rodeo will enable Cowboy Up for Cure Inc. to continue funding rehabilitative programs for pediatric cancer patients.

Cowboy Up for a Cure Inc. was founded in 2013 to benefit Central Kentucky children with various forms of pediatric cancer while raising awareness and providing a pathway to progress for families faced with similar adversities.

FarmHouse as an organization was founded in 1905 at the University of Missouri and has since spread across North America to 34 different campuses.

UK Rodeo Team was founded in August 2013 with 30 members. Their mission is to promote and develop the sport of rodeo at the University of Kentucky and throughout the community. The team provides students with the opportunity to further pursue the sport.
