Free Shuttle to Keeneland for Opening Weekend

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 8, 2009) - All students are invited to join UK Student Government (SG) at Keeneland Race Course this weekend to celebrate the opening of the horse racing season in the Bluegrass! SG is giving students the opportunity to experience one of Kentucky’s greatest traditions as they offer all students free round trip transportation from campus to Keeneland this Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10.

Two buses will leave on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. respectively from Flag Plaza, across from Memorial Coliseum. Two buses will be provided on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. respectively. All buses will return after the final race both days. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A numbered ticket will be given to each rider prior to departure from campus to show for the return trip to campus.

Students will not be required to return to campus on a bus if they have other means of returning home. No student, however, will be allowed to ride home without proof of riding the bus to Keeneland earlier in the day. Students also must show a valid UK ID to ride the bus.

“We’re excited to provide this opportunity for all students, new and returning, native Lexingtonians or international, to integrate and interact with the signature industry of the Bluegrass,” said Student Body President Ryan Smith. “Keeneland is a major part of the culture at UK, and we want to provide more students with the opportunity to experience the pride of the Commonwealth.”
