Get to Know One of UK’s Most Popular Exchange Programs at Maynooth University

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 24, 2017) — Students can learn more about one of University of Kentucky’s most popular exchange programs at Maynooth University, just 15 miles west of Dublin, Ireland, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in 207 Bradley Hall.

“No student has ever come back from Maynooth with a bad experience, they love it,” said Laurence Tuccori, exchanges coordinator.

The Maynooth program allows students to enroll for the academic year, fall or spring semesters. The program is open to undergraduate students of all academic disciplines who have sophomore, junior or senior standing. Students have consistently ranked Maynooth University first overall in Ireland for its quality of teaching and learning, according to Times Higher Education, and is the highest-placed Irish university in the ranking.

At this information session, students will have the opportunity to hear about the program firsthand from a Maynooth faculty member, Karen Till. Till is a senior lecturer of cultural geography and director of the Space&Place research collaborative at Maynooth University. Till received her doctoral degree in cultural geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Through her own experiences, she will be able to provide students with an insight into life, culture, courses and student life at Maynooth and Ireland.

Claire Johnson, an English and journalism senior who attended the program, said, “Maynooth University absolutely changed the way I viewed myself and the way I viewed the world. It gave me friends who I now consider family, and a town I consider home. For that, I will forever be grateful for my experience abroad at Maynooth.”

Johnson’s friend, Alli Robic, a senior majoring in history, had similar sentiments about her education abroad experience in Maynooth.

“I loved Maynooth and miss it every single day. If you do go abroad, you have to make sure that you make those months worthwhile — a lot of people don’t have the opportunity to have these experiences. I knew I was lucky that I had the privilege to go,” Robic said.
