Peer Tutoring Open Extended Hours, Fridays

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 1, 2011) — As a result of the increase in student traffic and demand, Academic Enhancement’s Peer Tutoring Program will now be open on Fridays from 12-5 p.m. during the 2011-2012 academic school year.

Academic Enhancement, located in The Study on the third floor of Complex Commons, is a centralized department that provides academic resources through a variety of programs and services that aim to enhance students’ academic experience at the University of Kentucky.

In addition to peer tutoring, Academic Enhancement offers Individual Academic Consultations, Study Smarter Seminars, GRE Prep, ACT Prep and many other services that help students study smarter and not harder while at UK.

The Peer Tutoring Program, Academic Enhancement’s most popular service, is a proactive, preventive and drop-in service that offers free peer tutoring in over 50 courses.

With a staff of more than a hundred Peer Tutors who have successfully completed the courses in which they tutor, as well as Desk Workers, the Peer Tutoring program aims to create a welcoming, relaxing and productive environment that students can utilize throughout the semester.

After a very successful year during which the Peer Tutoring Program provided over 17,000 tutoring sessions, Academic Enhancement has extended the hours of its Peer Tutoring Program in hopes of not only balancing out student traffic but increasing student traffic as well.

In order to better accommodate students and the growth of the program, Academic Enhancement’s Peer Tutoring Program is now accessible six days a week: Sundays 6-10 p.m.; Monday-Thursday 3-10 p.m.; and Fridays 12-5 p.m.

“We are really excited to be able to provide more opportunities for students to collaborate on assignments with AE peer tutors and classmates," said Anna Gatewood, an Assistant Director at Academic Enhancement. "It’s a great thing to walk into our tutoring space and see students putting their heads together towards a common goal, and now we get to see that one more day a week.”

As the Peer Tutoring Program opens back up this week, Academic Enhancement looks forward to the continued growth of the program, as a result of this extended availability.
