Backyard Beats Series Kickoff

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 10, 2009) – It’s round two for the UK’s Student Activities Board (SAB) music series, Backyard Beats, as it kicks off the semester with a local country music act.

This is the first of three concerts in the series, held on Thursdays until the end of October at either the Memorial Hall Amphitheater or Student Center front lawn at 8 p.m. The outdoor set-up for the event allows for a relaxed environment and a great way to end the week on campus. The series opener welcomes Kentucky’s own country singers Wildman and Randy Lanham

This semester’s series features two groups from Kentucky to give more of a local flavor.

“This year we decided to do more local acts, so it's more like the beats you would hear in your backyard,” said SAB Director of Concerts Chris Duncan.

SAB strives to constantly mix up the genres of the Backyard Beats series to reach different parts of campus. The acts to follow Wildman and Randy Lanham are rap artist Kasper from the K and singer/songwriter Mark Rose.

Backyard Beats is produced by SAB’s concert committee. The concert committee is continually bringing both well-known and up-and-coming artists to campus. Artists range from this year’s sold-out GirlTalk concert to past musicians Jason Mraz, O.A.R., Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lil’ Wayne and more.

SAB strives to bring the best events to campus to enrich the lives of UK students and the UK community, providing opportunities not found outside of UK. For more information about Backyard Beats or other SAB events, visit www.uksab.org.
