Lunch and Listen: Spring Concert Series Part Two
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 23, 2012) – Lexington native and up and coming indie artist, Matt Duncan, and Englishman front man, Andrew English, will perform 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 23, at K Lair as part of the Spring Concert Series. This event is free and is sponsored by the Student Activities Board.
Duncan started his career as a member of the recognizable local bands Parlour Boys, Summer Melts, Very Emergency and others before starting his own band, the Matt Duncan Band. His music is rooted in influences of indie, pop and rock and roll. The Matt Duncan Band performed at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, last spring but Duncan mostly plays in venues around the Lexington community. Some of Duncan's songs can be heard on popular TV shows such as "Private Practice" and "Bored to Death." Duncan is a 2006 University of Kentucky alum with a degree in sociology.
The EP, "Beacon," was recorded intermittently between 2007 and 2009 in the basement of Duncan’s parents' home and released in 2010. Most of the title tracks including "1000 Boys" and "Puritan Heart" have an indie-soul sound. His latest full-length album, "Soft Times" will drop this spring.
"Taxidermy," Englishman’s debut EP has a folk, pop sound and with tracks such as "Planted" and "Party Canceled."
“The Spring Concert Series is a perfect opportunity for local and up and coming artists to connect with UK students while sharing a musical experience,” Seth Murphy, director of concerts for SAB, said. “Duncan has such an original sound and I know students will enjoy it.”
The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
