Schulman, along with his brother and film partner, documented his online relationship with a woman who used a fake identity on social media – a term coined “being catfished.” The 2010 documentary highlighted the growing trend of online relationships among young people. Schulman used the film’s concept to create “Catfish: The TV Show” for MTV, where he attempts to help people in online relationships meet the person they’ve been talking to and determine if they’re actually who they say they are.
“Nev has become a pop culture icon since ‘Catfish: The TV Show’ aired,” said Zach Johnson, SAB director of pop culture. “I think having Nev take us into the world of online dating and showing campus the power of social media will give students a better understanding of what the internet can do — both good and bad.”
