New Student Involvement Web Site
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 27, 2009) - Today, students are exploring their options for getting involved on campus at the Student Involvement Fair, but that's not the only way for students to learn about involvement opportunities. Last week, UK Student Involvement launched a new Web site at http://getinvolved.uky.edu, to help students find a group or activity that best matches their interests.
At the new Web site, students can learn about why involvement is so important to their college experience, find the organization that is right for them, find resources to make their organizations better and hear from other students about their involvement experiences.
One of the coolest new features is the fully revamped Campus Calendar. Students can view events by date, by category or by organization hosting the event. Organizations are encouraged to add their events to the campus calendar by visiting here.
"We hope that the Campus Calendar becomes the most comprehensive involvement and event calendar on campus," Chris Thuringer, associate director of student involvement and student media adviser, said. "We've designed it to be incredibly user-friendly and students can sign up for RSS feeds directly to their email or mobile devices. It also allows for event registration on the site. Students can download events to their calendars and share events through their personal social networking accounts."
Students can look for leadership opportunities on campus on the Application Station portion of the Web site. The Application Station is a central location where organizations can post leadership opportunities or applications for membership in their groups.
Students can also search the registered student organizations on the Web site or register their student organization. The listing for each organization also provides a description and contact information to help students connect to those organizations that interest them. There are also great resources for organizations to help them navigate everything from fundraising on campus to writing a constitution for their group.
For more information about student organizations, student involvement and how to make the most out of your collegiate experience, visit the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) in room 106 Student Center. This recently renovated space serves as a resource center for the hundreds of student organizations on campus, and is home to such organizations as the Center for Community Outreach, the Peer Resource Team, Wildcat Student TV and WRFL FM, UK’s very own student-run radio station. In addition, leadership development and diversity education opportunities are housed in the CSI.
