LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 24, 2023) — The University of Kentucky chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society inducted 445 new members during the Spring 2023 semester. The chapter’s induction ceremony was held in the W. T. Young Auditorium on March 2, 2023.

Celebrating academic excellence among first-year students, Alpha Lambda Delta’s chapter has been active on UK’s campus since 1940. There are more than 280 chapters of Alpha Lambda Delta nationally and the society has initiated more than 1 million students. The spring 2023 induction class is the largest in UK’s chapter history.

“I am honored to have watched UK's chapter of ALD grow continuously for the past three years and to have the opportunity to connect with those who are responsible for this growth,” says past student president, Jessica Lamb. “Our campus chapter is led by incredible students who have diligently worked to promote the organization and enhance the ALD experience for all members.”

Alpha Lambda Delta offers various scholarship opportunities to its members, and our chapter has had several recipients of the Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship for academic excellence, the James G. Stemler Study Abroad award and the Graduate Fellowship. The chapter has won several recent recognitions as well for growth in membership. The UK ALD chapter holds several meetings a semester which include information sessions on leadership, scholarship and service opportunities.

The 2022-2023 student executive board includes Nathan Sanders, president; Olivia Corley, vice president; Haley Stokes, secretary; Faham Hossain, treasurer; Heather Hunt, social media coordinator/webmaster; Yesenia Lopez, events coordinator; Madison Bush, service coordinator; and Jessica Lamb, student advisor. Dr. Patricia Whitlow, Director of The Office of Nationally Competitive Awards and C. Lynn Hiler, Program Coordinator of the Chellgren Center for Undergraduate Excellence are the staff advisors and coordinators for the chapter.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
