Soetarso Vying for First-Career Top-10 Finish After Day One

Day One ResultsBOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Sophomore Fadhli Soetarso led all Kentucky men’s golfers through the first 36 holes of play at the Kenny Perry Invitational on Monday at The Club at Old Stone. Soetarso is tied for 13th after two rounds of action and is in contention for his first career top-10 finish. Soetarso, playing as an individual, led all UK golfers, while junior Cooper Musselman was Kentucky’s top finisher on the team leaderboard and is tied for 17th overall. The Wildcats have five players in the top 27 with a final 18 holes remaining on Tuesday. In addition to Soetarso and Musselman, junior Tyler “Chip” McDaniel, senior Stephen Stallings and sophomore Fred Allen Meyer appear on the leaderboard among the top 27 individual players. As a unit, Kentucky carded rounds of 298 and 295 in the 36-holes of continuous play on the opening day of action. The Wildcats are currently sixth among the field of 12 and are 11 shots back of a top-three finish. About the lineup:Soetarso who made his second appearance for the Wildcats in his career this week was UK’s top-performing player with rounds of 75 and 71. His second-round 71 was the first par-or-better round of his career. Through 36 holes of action he is just 2-over par and tied for 13th overall. He is a mere stroke off the pace for his first collegiate top-10 finish. His impressive second round of play featured five birdies helping him to a 1-under par score. Musselman is in search of his third-straight top-20 finish to begin the season as he sits in a tie for 17th after two rounds of play. The Louisville, Kentucky, native logged rounds of 73 and 74 to come in at 3-over par combined. Musselman’s three birdies – including one on the final hole of play highlighted his round. McDaniel is one shot off of Musselman’s pace with a two-round score of 4-over par. UK’s junior All-American fired rounds of 75 and 73. He played at 1-under par over the course’s opening nine holes and finished his second round with a total of four birdies. Meyer and Stallings are both tied for 27th overall as each carded rounds of 75 and 74, respectively. Stallings played the back nine at 1-under par which included a red number on the par-five 18th. Meyer’s round featured three birdies on the final 18 holes of play on Monday, including two on the back nine. Freshman Allen Hamilton, also playing as an individual, logged the best round of his young career with a 1-under par, 71 to cap his day. Hamilton is tied for 43rd with a combined score of 10-over par. Junior Evan Cox finished the day in a tie for 49th overall following rounds of 76 and 79. The Tournament Field:Eastern Kentucky leads the field with a 5-under score through two rounds of action. The host Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky are in second and five-shots off the Colonels’ lead. Jacksonville State rounds out the top three with a 6-over par score. Mercer is in fourth at 10-over and Cleveland State is fifth at 11-over par. Kentucky sits just six strokes off of a top-five finish. About the course:The Club at Olde Stone is a course that has been built recently. Designed by course architect Arthur Hills, the course opened in 2006. It features newly added zeon zoysia fairways, bent grass greens, and close to 100 bunkers. Olde Stone has been called the “Crown Jewel of Mid-South Golf Courses” and plays at par 72 and 7,200 yards. As one of the most difficult courses in Kentucky, Olde Stone has been placed on par with Valhalla, Persimmon Ridge, and Triple Crown. The course was recognized as the eighth-best new private course in a 2007 edition of Golf Digest. The final round will begin with tee times at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
