Kentucky Hosts Tennessee on Friday Night at The Bell

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After earning a point on the road in Music City on Sunday afternoon, the Kentucky women’s soccer team will return to the pitch on Friday night for a border state showdown with the Tennessee Volunteers at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The match from the Bell Soccer Complex will be shown live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.

The Wildcats are still in search of their first SEC win and currently sit 4-7-3 overall and 0-5-2 in the Southeastern Conference. Kentucky has taken four of the last five meetings with the Vols, including a 3-2 win in the 2014 SEC Tournament semifinals down in Orange Beach.

Kentucky got two second half goals on Sunday to come back and draw level with Vanderbilt after digging itself a 2-0 hole 11 minutes into the match. In the second half, after switching from a 4-3-3 to a 5-3-2, UK outshot the Commodores, 11-3 and had the match’s best chance at a game-winning goal four minutes into the second overtime.

Tanya Samarzich had two assists in the match with Bosco and senior Zoe Swift scoring the goals for the Wildcats along the front line. Samarzich leads Kentucky with seven goals and four assists on the season tallying 18 points.

The Vols are currently sitting at 9-6-0 overall and 4-3-0 inside the league, having won three matches in a row after a 1-3-0 start in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee is led by New Zealand international Hannah Wilkinson, who has eight goals and seven assists on the season, for a team-leading 23 points. In net, Jamie Simmons and Shae Yanez have split time, with Simmons starting seven matches and Yanez getting the nod in the other eight. They have a team GAA of 1.38, with Simmons allowing 17 of the team’s 21 goals this season.

Friday is a stand-alone weekend for the Wildcats, with the match against Tennessee coming as the only match of the weekend for UK.
