Kentucky Falls Short to No. 14 Michigan, 4-3

ANN ARBOR, Mich. –Kentucky women’s tennis fell in the championship match of the ITA Kick-Off Regional to host No. 14 Michigan, 4-3.  The Wildcats drop to 1-1 on the season, with the Wolverines advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Michigan took the first point of the matchup by securing two wins in doubles action.  First, Ronit Yurovsky and Alex Najarian took down Morgan Chumney and Akvilė Paražinskaitė, 6-2.  The set that would clinch the point for the Wolverines was a 6-2 decision by Brienne Minor and Mira Ruder-Hook over UK’s No. 1 Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi.  Kentucky took the lead after the first two singles matches, as the Lithuanian duo of Justina Mikulskytė and Paražinskaitė took down their respective opponents.  Mikulskytė was the first to finish for the Wildcats, downing Ruder-Hook in matching 6-1 sets in the No. 4 singles match.  Paražinskaitė also took a 6-1 decision in her opening set against Najarian in No. 5 singles, and went on to secure the match in the second set, 6-4.  The Wolverines knotted the score at 2-2 when No. 19 Minor took down No. 100 Adachi in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3.  UK took its final lead of the match thanks to Kirsten Lewis with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Sara Remynse in No. 6 singles.  From there, Michigan secured the final two points in No. 3 and No. 1 singles.  In the No. 3 singles match, No. 107 Fahey downed Nadia Ravita, 6-3, 6-4.  The final match featured No. 19 Yurovsky against No. 97 Sutjiadi in the No. 1 singles match.  Yurovsky blanked Sutjiadi in the opening set, 6-0, before Sutjiadi retaliated to push the tiebreak in the second but fell just short, 7-6(3).The Wildcats will head West for their next matches, taking on San Diego State and San Diego in San Diego, Calif.  Kentucky will square off with the Aztecs on Friday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. ET, and will then take on the Toreros at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31.  Visit UKathletics.com for the most up-to-date information on the Kentucky women’s tennis team and all 22 varsity sports.
