FLUSHING, N.Y. – Kentucky’s doubles pairing of senior Aldila Sutjiadi and junior Mami Adachi defeated top-seeded Jessica Aney and Hayley Carter of North Carolina at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Friday evening. With the 7-6(1), 6-3 victory, the pair will continue to Saturday’s semifinal round.

The two will vie for a spot in the finals, playing No. 12 Gabriela Knutson/Valeria Salazar from Syracuse tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET. The Syracuse pair downed Pepperdine’s Mayar Sherif Ahmed/Christine Maddox, 6-2, 6-4, on Friday to reach the semifinals.

Friday’s win slightly resembled a rematch, as the UK pair was ousted in the tournament’s championship match last year by another UNC duo, when Carter teamed up with Whitney Kay to defeat the Kentucky tandem in a tiebreak, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(6).

In the singles draw, Sutjiadi was defeated by Florida’s Josie Kuhlman in the first round of singles on Thursday, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. However, the senior bounced back to earn a victory over Auburn’s Andie Dikosavljevic, 6-1, 6-4, in the singles consolation draw on Friday. She’ll move on to face another Southeastern Conference opponent in Georgia’s Eleni Christofi at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Freshman Lesedi Jacobs and sophomore Justina Mikulskyte fell to Alabama’s Andie Danielle/Erin Routliffe in a hard-fought battle on Thursday, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0(8). The two competed in the first round doubles consolation draw on Friday, but fell to both Michigan’s Brienne Minor/Mira Rudor-Hook, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0(8), and Maryland’s Kristina Hovsepyan/Alexandra Stanova, 6-3, 6-2.

This marks the third consecutive year the Wildcats have been represented in the Indoor Championships, all of which included appearances by Sutjiadi.

Hosted by Columbia University at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center, the Indoor Championships serves as the final major tournament of the fall season. The event features some of the best collegiate tennis players in the country in its 32-player singles draw and 20-team doubles draw.

In order to qualify for the event, participants either must be winners of the UTSA/ITA Division I Regional Championships, winners of the ITA Oracle Cup or be consolation champions, doubles finalists, men's singles quarterfinalists or women's singles semifinalists from the Saint Francis ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
