For Caregivers: Senior Resource Fair and Dementia Care Workshop

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2018) — Do you help with caregiving responsibilities for an aging loved one?

In the interest of employees who are also caregivers for older adults, University of Kentucky Human Resources will host a Senior Caregiving Conference on Friday, Nov. 30, at the Gatton Student Center. To register, visit the HR website

Activities includes:

  • A senior resource fair: free and open to the public 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • A dementia care workshop: $15 for family caregivers.

“We understand caregivers face a great number of challenges — especially working caregivers,” said Elder Care Specialist Terri Weber with UK Human Resources.

The resource fair provides an opportunity to connect face-to-face, and in one place, with a variety of organizations across Central Kentucky. Whether needed for future reference or now, resources represented at the fair include:

  • financial planning;
  • legal expertise;
  • housing and care options;
  • and more from 45 exhibitors.

Teepa Snow, a nationally recognized educator on dementia and the care that accompanies it, will present the workshop “A Positive Approach to Dementia Care.”

“We host this event to connect caregivers with services and agencies who can help with everyday responsibilities and learn new ways to approach dementia care from a nationally recognized expert,” Weber said.

The Senior Caregiving Conference is the largest event offered by the UK HR elder care program.

Lunch and learn events on topics related to elder care, such as Medicare and hospice, take place throughout the year at various campus locations.

Weber coordinates all elder care events including this annual conference. She also provides one-on-one consultations, including assistance and guidance involving any issues caring for an older loved one. This could include locating resources to help with caregiving needs locally and nationally.
