Fayette County High School Art Showcased at Barnhart Gallery
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 21, 2015) — Nearly 200 works of art from a variety of media are on display at the 2015 Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) High School Art Show. Hosted by the University of Kentucky School of Art and Visual Studies, the inaugural show will be open to the public from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Barnhart Gallery, located in Reynolds Building #1. This free public exhibition, and its corresponding reception and awards banquet, is the last to be held in the gallery space.
The show is a great opportunity for FCPS students to showcase their artistic talents in a professional gallery space. The exhibit will allow Lexington residents the opportunity to view works of great up-and-coming artists.
"Fayette County’s commitment and support of arts education programs is profound. Through effective instruction and access to resources, Fayette County students are provided amazing opportunities to engage their creativity and grow as emerging artists in our community," said Bryne Jacobs, principal of Lafayette High School. "The Fayette County High School Art Show is a wonderful showcase of our talented students and the inspiring works of art they have created."
Friday's showing includes a reception and awards banquet for the young artists, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. During the reception, awards will be presented in the following categories: drawing, color drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, crafts, digital media, digital photography and printmaking.
The 2015 FCPS High School Art Show is the last exhibition in Barnhart Gallery as UK School of Art and Visual Studies transitions to its new facility, the Bolivar Art Center. The Bolivar Art Center has transformed from a newly renovated historic warehouse into a state-of-the-art research laboratory that will feature new media labs, a 3D fabrication lab, a photography suite and more.
