It’s On Us, KRNL Lifestyle + Fashion Magazine to host Denim Day Fashion Show: Awareness, Advocacy and Action
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 21, 2025) — In honor of Denim Day, It’s On Us at the University of Kentucky and KRNL Lifestyle + Fashion Magazine will host the Denim Day Fashion Show: Awareness, Advocacy and Action 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Base110, 110 West Vine St., fourth floor, in Lexington.
The event aims to raise awareness about sexual violence, support survivors and promote prevention through the universal language of fashion. Attendees will experience an evening of impactful fashion and storytelling, with original designs that communicate powerful messages of consent, resilience and empowerment. The event will also feature short films that confront myths about clothing and consent, break the silence and challenge harmful stereotypes.
Denim Day is a global movement that began in response to a 1998 Italian Supreme Court decision that overturned a rape conviction based on the victim’s attire. In protest, people around the world wear denim to challenge misconceptions surrounding sexual assault and victim-blaming. The Denim Day Fashion Show channels this spirit, transforming denim into a symbol of solidarity and change.
Admission is free, but tickets are limited and can be reserved here. Donations and proceeds from the evening will benefit the Sexual Violence Resource Center of the Bluegrass, which provides essential support services to survivors in our community.
For University of Kentucky students impacted by sexual assault, free and confidential survivor support is available through the VIP Center. Visit uky.edu/vipcenter or call 859-257-3574 for assistance. Additional resources can be found at studentsuccess.uky.edu/get-help.
To report an incident of harassment or sexual assault, students may contact the Title IX Coordinator at 859-257-8927 or visit oeo.uky.edu.
About It’s On Us
Founded as a White House initiative in 2014, It’s On Us is the largest nonprofit program in the U.S. dedicated to preventing sexual assault on college campuses. The University of Kentucky chapter launched in Fall 2023, emerging from the work of students in Christal Badour’s capstone psychology course. Led by Co-Presidents Caleb Dotson and Ella Bean, the chapter continues to grow its impact through peer education, advocacy and outreach — complementing the support provided by the VIP Center with student-led action.
As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
