Jamie Washington to Speak at LGBTQ* History Month Lecture

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 18, 2016) — October is LGBTQ* History Month. As part an annual collaboration between the Office of LGBTQ* Resources, the Martin Luther King Center, UK HealthCare, African American and Africana Studies and the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center, Jamie Washington will be giving a keynote lecture on race, gender and sexual orientation.

Washington is a writer, speaker, coach, consultant, teacher and trainer. He is the president and founder of the Social Justice Training Institute and a visiting professor of religion and ethics at Winston Salem State University.

Washington also serves on the board of directors for Campus Pride, the leading national nonprofit organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create a safer college environment for LGBTQ* students.

The lecture will take place 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in room 283 of the Gatton College of Business and Economics.

"We are excited about this new annual collaboration that will highlight a scholar or activist who works at the intersections of race and LGBTQ* life," said Lance Poston, director of LGBTQ* Resources. "Dr. Washington’s experiences inside and outside the academy make him a perfect fit to continue campus conversations aimed at providing all Wildcats a true sense of belonging at our institution."
