National Theatre Live and the Bolshoi Ballet Debut at UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 9, 2019) National Theatre Live and the Bolshoi Ballet are coming to the University of Kentucky this spring.

The Office of Lifelong Learning has teamed up with the Department of Theatre and Dance and UK Opera Theatre within the College of Fine Arts, the Gatton Student Center Cinema and the Office of Community Engagement to bring these productions to UK and the Central Kentucky community.

The broadcasts, hosted by BY Experience, have been viewed by 6.5 million people in over 2,000 venues in more than 60 countries. 

The National Theatre Live: “Hamlet” (encore performance) will be showing Feb. 3, and the Bolshoi Ballet's “The Sleeping Beauty” will show March 31. Both broadcasts will begin 2 p.m.

The showings will be held at the Gatton Student Center in Worsham Cinema complete with 4K digital projection and 60-speaker Dolby Atmos surround sound. 

"We are very excited to bring these productions to Lexington," said Executive Director Diana Lockridge, of UK Office of Lifelong Learning. "After the two spring productions our committee will begin work on scheduling a full season for the 2019-2020 year. A special thank you to Zack Lamb and the Gatton Student Center staff for providing the space, staffing, promotion and technical assistance required to bring these productions to campus.”
