LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 5, 2020) — The Smart Campus Initiative, along with the Center for Enhanced Learning and Teaching, will host a series of talks by University of Kentucky faculty who have integrated iPads into their teaching. The speakers will discuss what they have done to re-envision their courses and assignments; talk through ideas that did and didn’t work; and provide insight as to how they navigated challenges along the way.
The first workshop, titled “How the iPad Transformed the way I Teach: One UK Faculty Member's Journey,” will take place at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Room 375 of the Gatton Student Center.
Nicole Garritano, associate professor in the College of Nursing and Apple Distinguished Educator, will discuss how leveraging the iPad and its capabilities has impacted her life both professionally and personally. Garritano will also discuss her best practices, pedagogical ideas and offer advice to navigate challenges you might encounter as you think about transforming your curriculum.
All UK faculty members, including lecturers and instructors, are invited to attend the series. Lunch will be provided but seats are limited, so please RSVP here.
The speaker series supports the nationally recognized Smart Campus digital strategy at the university that focuses on the institution’s goals of increasing persistence and graduation rates, while preparing students for lives of meaning and purpose.

“These sessions will provide an opportunity for some of our early adopters to share their experiences on integrating the iPad technology into their classes and answer questions that may help guide their colleagues as they think through modifying and modernizing their own courses," said Abbie Loynachan, executive director of the Smart Campus Initiative. "In order to reach a broad scope of faculty and a variety of interests, the talks will be given by UK faculty in various disciplines who have taught in both large and small class sizes. We hope those that attend will come away with a few ideas they might make in their own courses that will be useful for them and our students.”
