UK Celebrates Appreciation Day With Food, Fun on May 25

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 23, 2017) University of Kentucky Appreciation Day (UKAD) is here once again to express thanks for the UK faculty and staff's hard work and dedication to the university. This year’s event is Thursday, May 25.

Activities will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Seaton Center Gymnasium, located at 1210 University Dr. Lunch will be held at the Boone Tennis Center next door. An external map with a schedule of events can be found here. A map of the locations for each activity can be found here.

Everyone from the UK community is welcome. Supervisors are encouraged to adjust schedules accordingly without requiring leave to be utilized. UK HealthCare employees should notify their supervisor in advance if they would like to attend, so schedules can be adjusted accordingly to not impact patient care.

All Appreciation Day activities are free and include:

  • Lunch
    • Pulled pork, hamburgers, veggie/vegan burgers, chips, cookies and drinks.
  • UK Department and Vendor Exhibit Fair
  • Three sessions by Health and Wellness
    • "BeWell: Finding Stillness" (11:30 a.m. to noon)
    • "MoveWell: Yoga 101" (noon to 12:30 p.m.)
    • "EatWell: How Much Sugar?" (12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.)
  • Music by Harmonic Dilemma
  • Photo booth
  • Clearly You Crystals
  • Voting booths for the staff representative for the UK Staff Senate, as well as the UK Women’s Forum.
  • UK T-shirt giveaway
    • Department T-shirt pick-up time will begin at 10:30 a.m., in Room 123 of the Seaton Center.
    • Although the deadline for T-shirt orders has passed, departments that missed the deadline are encouraged to bring a spreadsheet to T-shirt pick up after 1:30 p.m. You will need to provide name, UKID number and sizes. The UKAD Commission will attempt to fill any late orders with remaining shirts. These will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • Group T-shirt pick-up is reserved only for employees who cannot attend.

To provide ease of transport to the Appreciation Day site, bus service and specifically designated free parking have been secured.

UK Transportation Services is operating four buses specifically for those attending UKAD. The buses will operate 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 25. Two buses will be servicing the southern side of campus and two others will be servicing the northern portion.

Northern Loop

  • First stop: Scovell Hall (Huguelet Drive at S. Limestone)
  • Second stop: Administration Drive, near Gillis Building
  • Third stop: UK HealthCare Good Samaritan Hospital, front entrance driveway
  • Fourth stop: Rose Street at Columbia Avenue
  • Fifth stop: Complex Drive at Johnson Center (Appreciation Day site)

Southern Loop

  • First stop: Ag North
  • Second stop: UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital flagpole
  • Third stop: Complex Drive at Johnson Center (Appreciation Day site)

Please note that UK Appreciation Day attendees are advised not to utilize the Summer Bus Route; it will not provide direct service to the Appreciation Day location.

Campus buses can be tracked in real time using the TransLoc Rider app on iPhone and Android devices or by visiting their website here, allowing for users to plan for delays caused by traffic, accidents or inclement weather.

The following areas will be available for free Appreciation Day parking: Seaton Center loading/service area, Complex Drive, the Sports Center Drive lots, the Sports Center Garage (PS #7), the Kroger Field Red Lot and the Kroger Field Green Lot. The areas listed above will not be controlled for permits on Thursday, May 25.
