LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 27, 2018) In the midst of the #metoo revolution, several programs at the University of Kentucky are teaming up to host Emily Lindin and the “UnSlut Project,” March 1-2.

Lindin’s film, “UnSlut: A Documentary Film,” will be screened twice and followed by a Q&A discussion March 1-2. The first screening will start 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Kincaid Auditorium in the Gatton College of Business and Economics Building. The second screening will start 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, at the UK Athletics Auditorium and Alumni Gallery at William T. Young Library. Lindin will also lead a lecture to discuss the #metoo and #timesup revolution on social media that is altering the culture of sexual violence and harassment against women. Her talk will begin 2 p.m. Friday, March 2, in UK Athletics Auditorium and Alumni Gallery at Young.

Lindin, who earned her doctoral degree from Harvard University, is an award-winning filmmaker and author. She first wrote her book, “UnSlut: A Diary and Memoir,” based upon her personal stories of being slut-shamed and sexually bullied in middle school, leading her to later create the documentary.

The documentary was inspired by her book and own personal stories along with interviews with sexuality experts, advocates and media figures who help her explore sexual shaming, bullying and discrimination.

Lindin has been featured on ABC, CNN, NPR, in Women’s Health Magazine and Glamour UK, and on Salon for speaking out against slut-shaming. Her film is being screened around North America at universities, theaters and festivals.

This event is made possible by UK Libraries, UK College of Social Work, Office of LGTBQ* Resources and Office of Institutional Diversity. Staff from the UK Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Center will be present both days. VIP is a confidential campus community resource that serves those impacted by sexual and gender-based violence through direct advocacy and creates violence prevention-based education programs and training opportunities on campus.

The “UnSlut Project” screenings and lecture are free, but registration is required due to limited space. Individuals interested in attending can register at the event website https://emilylindinatuky.wixsite.com/unslut.
