LEXINGTON, Ky.(April 25, 2024) — The University of Kentucky Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (OSFAS), in collaboration with Enrollment Management in the Office for Student Success, is hosting a free online zoom workshop to help students and families complete the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The "Virtual FAFSA Help Workshop" will take place at 7 p.m. ET Monday, April 29. Registration is encouraged and can be completed here

In an effort to streamline the application process, the U.S. Department of Education recently updated FAFSA for the 2024-25 academic year. However, the rollout has experienced technical difficulties and setbacks.

In response, UK’s financial aid professionals are available to assist in real-time. Ultimately, they want students, parents and families to know they don’t have to navigate these changes alone.

"The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships is dedicated to helping students complete the FAFSA," Paul McKinney, Ph.D, associate vice president for student financial stability, said. "The FAFSA is the first step towards receiving aid that helps reduce financial barriers and allows students to attend college. We are here to help!”

The workshop will include:

  • Practical advice on how to complete the 2024-25 FAFSA.
  • An overview of information from the U.S. Department of Education on opportunities available to students and contributors who have already completed the 2024-25 FAFSA and need additional assistance.
  • How to schedule private and confidential appointments with a member of UK's financial aid team.
    • They will also have contact information for all of Kentucky's public higher education institutions available for students.

More information about the workshop can be found here.

OSFAS will also offer extended hours beginning Monday, April 29 and continuing through Wednesday, May 15.

For additional questions about FAFSA, email OSFAS at osfas@uky.edu or call 859-257-3172.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
