UK x Gen.G to host 3-day esports winter camp for middle school students

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 14, 2022) — The University of Kentucky, in collaboration with Gen.G, will host a three-day winter camp for middle school students starting Monday, Dec. 19, held at The Cornerstone on UK's campus. 

Learning objectives are soft skill development, social skill development and career exploration. 

Students will have the opportunity to build relationships and network with young gamers, participate in tournaments, tour UK’s campus and sit in on panel discussions and Q&As with professionals in the industry. 

The camp tuition is $300 and will include lunch for all three days.The primary program will start each day at 10 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. There will be an option for "free play" before and after the program for parents who need to drop their child off early and/or need to pick up their child up late. This option is included in the price of the camp.

The partnership between UK and Gen.G works to develop new pathways for student recruitment, classroom and internship opportunities; research avenues for scholars across a variety of colleges; and professional development for alumni.

UK’s esports program is a part of UK’s larger Smart Campus initiative, aiming to use esports and other technologies to build a stronger and larger sense of community on campus. The program also aims to maximize student success and the potential for career opportunities in the esports industry.
