Help for Alzheimer's Caregivers in Kentucky, Ohio
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2012) — A free presentation by the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, the Alzheimer's Association, the Kentucky TeleHealth Network and local hospitals may be helpful to Alzheimer's caregivers in the Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky areas.
A live, interactive video presentation to be held 5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, will focus on "Medication Use and Misuse in Those with Dementia." The presentation will be viewable at the following locations: The METS Center in Erlanger, Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center in Louisville, and the UK HealthCare Kentucky Clinic in Lexington.
Speakers will include Dee Antimisiaris of the University of Louisville, Robert Cluxton of the University of Cinicinnati and Dr. Gregory Jicha of the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. Topics covered will include the benefit or harm of multiple medications, the use and misuse of acetylcholine esterase inhibitors and the usage of supplements - including how to watch out for scams.
The event is free of charge and open to the public, but registration is mandatory. Participants should contact the Alzheimer's Association at 1-800-272-3900 to reserve a spot.
The program is offered through voluntary efforts by the staff of the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, UK Alzheimer’s Disease Center, Alzheimer’s Association, and Kentucky Telecare, to provide ongoing support to the family members, friends and caregivers of persons diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders in Kentucky communities. Using the interactive telemedicine system, this program is part of a larger effort to bring the support services of the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging to persons living in and outside of the Lexington area.
