IHOP Flips for Kentucky Children's Hospital
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2010) − Support Kentucky Children’s Hospital by joining IHOP for free pancakes in celebration of National Pancake Day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the IHOP restaurant located at 2306 Palumbo Drive in Lexington.
Families and friends can enjoy a free short stack of IHOP’s famous buttermilk pancakes, and in turn, make a donation to IHOP’s national charity partner, the Children’s Miracle Network, which helps improve the lives of children at the 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals nationwide. One-hundred percent of the funds raised locally will benefit Kentucky Children’s Hospital, a Children’s Miracle Network hospital.
The inspiration for National Pancake Day dates back several centuries to when the English prepped for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent. So pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products. Therefore, the day was named Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday.
“We are so pleased to partner with IHOP for National Pancake Day," said Angela Clemens, leadership circle coordinator for Kentucky Children's Hospital. "They have been a wonderful supporter of Kentucky Children’s Hospital for several years. What could be better than free pancakes to help the children of Kentucky?”
Since beginning its National Pancake Day celebration in 2006, IHOP has raised more than two million dollars to support charities in the communities in which it operates. The goal for 2010 is to raise another $1 million or so for Children's Miracle Network.
Lexington's IHOP opened late in 2006; therefore this is Lexington's fourth opportunity to participate.
