KCH to Hold Pediatric Cancer Survivors Picnic

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 29, 2010) Kentucky Children's Hospital will hold a picnic for pediatric cancer survivors and their families from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the University of Kentucky's E.S. Good Barn field, 1451 University Drive (off Alumni Drive near Nicholasville Road, close to UK's Commonwealth Stadium) in Lexington. The picnic is for all young patients who are currently receiving treatment or have received treatment.

The annual picnic, arranged by health professionals at Kentucky Children’s Hospital, is an afternoon of fun for pediatric cancer survivors. There will be inflatables, games, musical entertainment, food and prizes for all attendees. Stitches, the children's hospital mascot, will also be there along with other surprises in store for the children.

"The battle that these children have faced is tremendous and certainly worth recognition," said Andrea Nichols, a pediatric oncology nurse at Kentucky Children's Hospital. "Our goal is to reward them with a day of celebration of health, life, and a hope for a cure. We want to give them one day where they can just be a kid and not worry about being sick, taking medicine, or going to procedures. Instead, they can focus on the more important things, like snow cones, face painting, cotton candy, games, and prizes."
