Lawrenceburg Walmart Raises Funds for KCH
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 9, 2009) – Kentucky Children's Hospital is the recipient of $2,000 raised by the Lawrenceburg Walmart through the Volunteerism Always Pays program. Walmart staff volunteered during the Truck Tug in Lawrenceburg to raise the money.
Representatives from Kentucky Children's Hospital went to the Lawrenceburg Walmart to celebrate and recognize their philanthropy. The funds are being used to purchase Xboxes for Kentucky Children's Hospital's Makenna David Pediatric Emergency Center to help keep young patients happy and occupied.
“It’s our pleasure to raise money for Kentucky Children’s Hospital and provide much-needed funding for their great work,” said Kim Darland, Walmart store manager. “We are proud of our associates who have helped the children and families of Kentucky by stepping up their level of support.”
In 2008, there were 1,827 patient visits from Anderson County children at Kentucky Children’s Hospital through hospital admissions and pediatric clinic visits.
"The Kentucky Children's Hospital and Makenna David Pediatric Emergency Center sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Lawrenceburg Walmart for their donation," said Dr. Craig T. Carter, assistant professor of emergency medicine, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and medical director of the Makenna David Pediatric Emergency Center. "As we care for the sick children in Central and Eastern Kentucky, as only the second pediatric emergency department (ED) in the state, the game systems will help entertain and act as a distraction for the children during their emergency visit. The game systems will be used in the current Pediatric ED as well as be utilized when we open our new Peds ED facility in the summer of 2010."
The Lawrenceburg Wamart Supercenter gave $1,423.73 last year to Kentucky Children's Hospital. Over the last seven years, they have donated $11,195.33.
"We are so appreciative of the Lawrenceburg Walmart and their support," said Aimee Baston, manager of annual giving and Children’s Miracle Network at Kentucky Children’s Hospital. "Their work and the work of all the Walmarts in this area make such a difference at Kentucky Children's Hospital. We can't thank them enough."
