Trivia Bowl Raises $2,400 for KNI

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 29, 2009) — The Kentucky Neuroscience Institute (KNI) received a generous gift thanks to some of Lexington's brightest minds. The 2009 Lexington Trivia Bowl, a charity event held on Sept. 22 for the benefit of KNI, was a tremendous success, raising over $2,400. Proceeds will be used to support clinical research that may lead to better treatment options for Parkinson’s patients.
A total of 41 teams matched wits for the right to claim bragging rights as Lexington’s “know-it-all” and to take home the coveted “Horseshoe Cup.” The event, which consisted of several rounds of trivia questions on topics ranging from general knowledge to current events to music and sports, was a fun event for all of those in attendance.
The entry fee of $50 per team was donated to the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute to support the fight against Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. Additionally, local businesses donated several prizes for the contestants to win. Business sponsors included Shamrock's, Alfalfa Restaurant, Sun Tan City, Beef O’Brady’s, Stella’s Deli, Campus Pub, the Center for Therapeutic Touch Massage, Cosmic Charlie's, Friend’s and Company, Fox 56, Spuds, UK, and Goodfellas.
“We all enjoyed planning and organizing this event and everybody at the Bowl had a blast, but our success last night went beyond my expectations," said event organizer Chris Meng. "We are so glad to make our contribution to the efforts to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease.”
KNI conducts important work with Parkinson's disease research as well as several other neurological disorders. KNI's clinic merges UK HealthCare's neurologists and neurosurgeons into one location where patients will have the benefit of nationally recognized physicians from two departments working together. Patients from across the state and beyond are referred by their physicians to KNI, a dynamic teaching and resource entity, dedicated to providing patients with comprehensive care.
