Kleinman Receives Ronald Michels Foundation Fellowship Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 27, 2012) -- Dr. Mark Kleinman in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine has been honored with the 2012 Ronald Michels Foundation Fellowship Award.
Kleinman is a senior vitreoretinal surgery fellow and team member in the laboratory of Dr. Jayakrishna Ambati where he performs research into ocular biology and non-invasive molecular imaging of the retina. He joined the lab in 2006 after completing both his medical education and a surgery internship at New York University where he cultivated a specific interest in the field of vascular biology and tissue engineering. He has received numerous grants and awards for his work. Dr. Kleinman’s achievement marks the first time in the history of the Department that a fellow has received this prestigious recognition.
The Ronald Michels Fellowship Foundation Award is granted annually to one or more outstanding second-year vitreoretinal fellow(s) currently training in the United States. The Ronald Michels Fellowship Foundation was established in 1991 to honor the memory of Dr. Michels who trained more than 40 surgical fellows and was renowned for his work and research on vitreoretinal disorders.
