LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 8, 2010) − Nurses from the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Children's Hospital and UK's Good Samaritan Hospital recently were honored during the Lexington Legends' Sunday home games this season as part of the UK HealthCare Legends of Nursing program.

Selected nurses received four box seats to the game and were introduced to the crowd before throwing out the first pitch. The nurses are also recognized throughout the UK HealthCare system with digital posters commemorating their experience.

"Without our wonderful nurses who have given 'legendary care' to patients and families, we would not have achieved the Magnet Hospital designation for nursing excellence," said Kathleen Kopser, senior nursing administrator. "We appreciate all of the work and dedication of the nurses from UK Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Children's Hospital and UK's Good Samaritan Hospital.”

Nurses honored include Della F. Washington, a labor and delivery nurse at UK Chandler Hospital for 18 years; Tina McCoy, a neonatal/pediatric transport nurse who has worked at Kentucky Children's Hospital since 1988; Tara Fleming, co-chair of  the staff council at Kentucky Children's Hospital and mentor for senior nursing students and new nurses since 2006; Stacy Sauer, an intensive care unit nurse at UK 's Good Samaritan Hospital since 2007; and Donna Martin, an outpatient nurse at UK's Good Samaritan Hospital.

"Our exemplary nurses are definitely UK HealthCare nursing MVPs," said Kopser. "We congratulate all of them."
