New Baby a New Year's Surprise

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 1, 2010) − A Clay county family is celebrating the new year with a new baby!

The first baby born at a Lexington hospital in 2010 came into the world at UK HealthCare’s Chandler Hospital at 2:02 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1.  Keara Joy Campbell weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces and was 19 inches long.

Parents Malinda and Arnold Campbell, of Oneida, Ky.,  were surprised that their baby would be not only the first of 2010, but the first of the decade born at a Lexington hospital.

Since Campbell’s original due date was not until Jan. 19, Keara’s early arrival came as a surprise, as well.  “When I arrived at UK on Wednesday, Dec. 30, I had no idea that I would have the New Year’s baby,” said Malinda Campbell.

UK HealthCare presented the family with a special gift basket to celebrate Keara’s birth.

“We really appreciate how wonderful the entire staff here has been to us,” said Campbell.
