Piano Recital Thursday at UK Chandler Hospital
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 3, 2013) - First-year music theory doctoral student Jennifer Shafer will present a piano recital Thursday in the UK Chandler Hospital's Pavilion A Atrium Lobby. The recital will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Shafer earned her Bachelor’s degree in piano performance from East Texas Baptist University, graduating with honors in 2010. She received a master's degree in music theory from the University of Kentucky in 2012. Her main area of research interest is intersections between mathematics and music. Her master’s thesis, “Iannis Xenakis’ Evryali: An Examination of Structure through Wavelet Analysis,” explored an application of mathematics to music analysis.
Shafer has presented papers at regional conferences of the College Music Society: “A Study of Musical Integrity: Liszt's ‘Das Wandern’ ” in 2012 and “A Deformation of Sonata Form: Practical Implications for Pedagogy and Performance” in 2013. Shafer gave a presentation based on her master’s thesis research to the Senior Capstone Mathematics Seminar at Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
Shafer maintains a private studio in Lexington and remains active as a pianist. She has studied previously with Dr. Randall Sulton and is currently a student of Dr. Gregory Partain of Transylvania University.
The recital is presented by the UK HealthCare's Arts in Healthcare Program.
