LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 22, 2021) — Dr. Vincent L. Sorrell, the Anthony N. DeMaria professor of Medicine and the director of Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging at UK Gill Heart & Vascular Institute, will become editor-in-chief of CASE, an international cardiovascular imaging case reports journal.

CASE is the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE)’s online journal that publishes case reports where cardiovascular ultrasound is used to help diagnose or solve a clinical problem in humans or animals. The open-access educational platform features cases where cardiovascular ultrasound was used as a critical component of a multimodality approach to disease diagnosis or evaluation, or where it was used to detect unusual or atypical disease manifestations.

ASE President Dr. Judy Hung said Sorrell will be a driving force for CASE’s quality of content and growth. “ASE is so fortunate to have been able to select Vince to be editor-in-chief of CASE. The excellence and enthusiasm that Vince will bring to this position are very exciting.”

Sorrell, who will be interim chair for the UK HealthCare Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Gill Heart & Vascular Institute starting in June 2021, plans to transition CASE from a bi-monthly publication to monthly starting in January 2022.

Sorrell is a member of the ASE Board of Directors and also serves as an associate editor for the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE).

“Digital media has changed the medical imaging game, and provides educational opportunities that were not previously possible,” Sorrell said. “Case-based education is critical in our rapidly evolving environment and is charged by visual learners.”

Sorrell will work closely with the CASE Editorial team of imaging experts from around the world to provide readers with novel avenues aimed at linking imaging findings to clinical outcomes.

Sorrell’s new role as editor-in-chief will begin on Aug. 1, 2021.
