UK HealthCare Trauma hosting Fall Prevention Awareness Day event for public
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 14, 2026) – A fall can happen to anyone, at any age, place or time. For adults age 65 and older, falling can be frightening and a serious health matter — not only for the physical repercussions of falling, but the emotional trauma which often occurs afterwards. To bring more awareness to this important topic, the UK HealthCare Trauma Program is hosting a National Fall Prevention Awareness Day event 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Jessamine County Senior Center, 111 Hoover Drive in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
The educational event, which is free and open to the public, will feature expert speakers from trauma surgery, physical therapy, the Engaged Aging Lab and more. There will also be blood pressure checks, fall risk assessments and free vision screenings along with some fun giveaways.
Community members will learn valuable skills, the key points of providing care for the aging population, tips on how to prevent falls and how minor adjustments in the home can prevent future falls from happening.
The goal is to educate seniors, families and caregivers in the community about fall prevention and aging safely in place.
Fall Prevention Day is part of a nationwide initiative organized by the National Council on Aging. It aims to raise awareness that falls are preventable and to reduce the risk of falls for older adults in the state and across the country.
