UK to Observe National Public Health Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 4, 2011) − Members of the University of Kentucky Student Public Health Association (UKSPHA) at the UK College of Public Health, a student affiliate of the Kentucky Public Health Association (KPHA) will host a series of events on campus this week in observance of National Public Health Week, April 4-10.

Each day of National Public Health Week will feature a different public health issue and UKSPHA members will team up with other organizations on campus to hand out educational information and posters to students. The week's events are as follows:

Monday - Alcohol Safety (with UK’s Alcohol Education)

Tuesday - Mental Health (with the Harris Center and Frazee Hall)

Wednesday - Sexual Health (with University Health Services)

Thursday - Violence Prevention (with Violence Health Prevention)

“We’re looking forward to being out in the undergrad community, so they can see how public health directly affect their lives – and hopefully we can do a little something to have less injury and illness on our campus,” said Sarah Bounse, president of UKSPHA.

Communities across the country have celebrated National Public Health Week since 1995 to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving the public's health.

The UKSPHA will have a booth in front of White Hall Classroom Building from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday - Thursday.
