UK Rifle Wins at Navy

ANNOPOLIS, Md. – The Kentucky rifle team picked up its sixth win of the season winning 4688-4645 at Navy Saturday.

“Overall it was a good day to get the conference matches started,” head coach Harry Mullins said.  “Navy is always a great place to shoot and the team is always excited to come here and compete. I think that we are stating to close in on some of the things we are working on as a group. I felt we shot a good standing and held it together at the end of smallbore.

“It was nice to see the team score come up a little from last week. The goal moving forward is just to get a little better each match. I am proud of the group for working through some of the obstacles that stood in their way today. We will go back home now and get ready for a three-match home stand.” 

Billy Azzinaro led the way for the Wildcats with a new personal best smallbore and aggregate score. The junior fired an 1177 aggregate score, which tied the season-high score by any one on the team, and a 588 in smallbore. Azzinaro finished one point short of his career-high air rifle score with a 589.

Senior Sonya May improved her performance from last week as well with an 1170 aggregate. She shot a 577 smallbore score and tied Heather Kirby’s season high for air rifle with a 593. Kirby matched May’s air rifle score and shot an 1168 aggregate.

Jason Spaude fired a career-high 590 in air rifle. Hanna Carr improved her smallbore score with a 584 this week, and Cathryn Popasodora fired a 585 in air rifle.
