Conference to Help Educators Implement Math, Science Standards

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 9, 2012) — The P-12 Math & Science Outreach unit of the Partnership Institute for Math and Science Education Reform (PIMSER) is hosting its second annual conference, "Meeting the Challenge: Implementing Standards and Assessment Practices," July 16-18, in Lexington.  

International experts and nationally-recognized authors on assessment, grading, and leadership will join local classroom teachers and school administrators to present emerging research, successful practices, practical examples and student achievement results.

Conference sessions will provide an opportunity for educators at all levels to learn strategies for implementing the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and preparing for the release of the Next Generation Science Standards.  Presenters will share classroom examples and experiences to address using balanced assessments, standards-based grading, and common assessments to achieve desired student learning results. 

The conference will highlight a variety of curricular, instructional, and leadership strategies so educators can provide high-quality instruction, improve student learning, and ensure that their students are prepared for college and career. Pre-conference sessions will offer an in-depth focus on implementing Highly Effective Teaching and Learning, focusing on the standards, assessment, literacy, and leadership for effective change.
