UK Presents First Kentucky Summit on Trombone
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 30, 2011) − Next Monday trombonists from across the state will descend on the University of Kentucky for Kentucky's first Commonwealth Trombone Summit. The summit will feature masterclasses for the state's college trombone players followed by a recital featuring the quartet Equali. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Singletary Center for the Arts.
The first of what will be come the annual Commonwealth Trombone Summit will bring together the students and faculty of trombone studios of several of the state's universities, including UK, Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University. The summit will begin with a masterclass from 4-6 p.m.
The highlight of the evening's festivities, a concert featuring the quartet Equali, will follow at 7:30 p.m. Equali is comprised of musicians Louis Bremer, Vanessa Fralick, Steve Menard and Sam Schlosser. The quartet's members have experience playing with ensembles of symphonies in Cincinnati, St. Louis, Oregon, Milwaukee, and San Antonio.
"The Commonwealth Trombone Summit is an extraordinary opportunity for students to perform with and learn from some of the best orchestral trombone players in the nation," says Bradley Kerns, trombone lecturer at UK School of Music. "The goal of the event is to bring together students from Kentucky universities in a positive and inspiring environment."
All events associated with the Commonwealth Trombone Summit will be presented in the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.
The UK Trombone Studio, under the direction of Bradley Kerns, includes trombone students actively engaged in world-class performance opportunities in all styles and genres of music. UK trombone students have many diverse performance opportunities such as UK's Trombone Choir, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band, Jazz Combos, Wildcat Marching Band, and Symphony Orchestra.
