Spanish vocal duo Tarta Relena to perform at the Singletary Center
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 15, 2026) — The Singletary Center for the Arts and GreenRoom Exchange present Tarta Relena from Barcelona, Spain, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, in the SCFA Recital Hall. The evening will begin with a performance of composer Meara O’Reilly’s “Hockets for Two Voices,” performed by Mingjia Chen and Linnea Sablosky.
Tarta Relena explores the rich vocal traditions of the Mediterranean, singing in languages including classical Greek, Italian, Spanish, Latin, Catalan and Ladino. Their music blends sacred and secular influences, drawing inspiration from flamenco, lyrical song, traditional music and electronic experimentation. Renowned for their captivating live performances, the duo crafts a vibrant sonic world where the past and future converge.
Tarta Relena’s most recent album, “És pregunta,” explores themes of tragic contemplation, portraying the tension between natural and human forces grappling with mysterious and inevitable consequences. The album is a conceptual journey through fate, knowledge and the struggle to reconcile our future selves with present realities.
O’Reilly is a composer and artist who focuses on perception and new musical interfaces. She has worked with artists including Bjork and Fleet Foxes, and has opened for acts including Beck, Kronos Quartet, Meredith Monk, Laurie Anderson and Bill Callahan. O’Reilly’s album “Hockets for Two Voices” received critical praise for its technically challenging performance and otherworldly aural effect.
