Back to the Books

For many UK students, today is the first day they've set their alarm all summer long – it's back to class time on campus! Just because students are back to the books, that doesn't mean that the fun of K Week is over. In fact, K Week helps new students learn about the academic resources available on campus.

"K Week is a great time for new students to learn about all of the resources that are out there to help them be successful college students," said Bo Milburn, editor of the K Book. "The K Book is a guide to life on campus, and new Wildcats should use the K Book as a jumping off point to explore UK, especially this week."

One easy way to check out many of the resources on campus is to visit open houses. Several groups are hosting open houses on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. including the Army and Air Force ROTC, the Disability Resource Center, Student Support Services and the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center. For a complete listing of open house events and locations, see pages 16 and 17 in the K Week Schedule of Events booklet.

At several locations around campus, you can get your day off to a Super Start! From 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, visit the Super Start tents where you can get directions to your next class, grab a bottle of water or have your questions answered.

At 4 p.m., discover the best study spots on campus with the Hidden Secrets tour. Departing from the Patterson statue outside of POT, students can learn about the academic resources available on campus and where they can study between classes, late at night or with a group of friends.

Unwind after your classes at the UK Alumni Association Welcome Back Cookout. The Welcome Back Cookout leads into UK's Amazing Race, where students race around campus to win great prizes – you'll need your K Book and a digital camera to win! At 10 p.m., Student Activities Board hosts Cheap Seats Opening Act, where students can see the latest silver-screen hits for just $1! Head over to Haggin Field and bring your blanket to watch stars under the stars (inclement weather location is the Seaton Center gym).

Here are a few other events that will help you adjust to life as a college student.
